Pontiac To Offer Limited Edition Daytona 500 Pace Car for 1998
(Daytona Beach, FL.) - In 1959, a Bonneville convertible paced the field
for the inaugural running of the Daytona 500. This would begin a tradition that
has seen Pontiac lead the way before the Great American Race more often than all
other automakers combined. Pontiac will, again, serve as the Official Pace Car
for the 40th annual Daytona 500 with a Limited Edition model of the 1998 WideTrack
Grand Prix GTP. And Pontiac is giving racing fans a chance to put the same car
in their driveways. A limited number (2000) of the special edition vehicles have
been produced for sale at select Pontiac dealerships across the country. The
Limited Edition model of the 1998 Grand Prix Daytona 500 Pace Car features some unique
enhancements, including; Ram Air dual-port hood, Gulf Blue paint, unique torque star
16"aluminum wheels and the 40th Annual Daytona 500 cloisonne door emblems and
decals. "Thc Daytona 500 is the biggest motorsports event in the country,
" said Bill Heugh, brand manager for Pontiac Grand Prix. "It stands
for quality and excellence, exactly what we strive for with the Pontiac Grand Prix."
In additional to the pace car above, the Motorsports
Performance Design company in Indiana takes a stock GT or GTP from Pontiac and gives
it the MPD F1 option.
